En. Abam @ 16 months old

(pic 16 bulan SX. hehe...)

wewwitt! arini genap umur anak terunaku 16 bulan. makin banyak akal, lasak & notty banget! straight to the point, here are his milestones:

1. gigi dah makin banyak tapi aku takleh nak kira dah sebab dia asyik nak geget!

2. skang ni kalau lepas abis minum susu dia tak campak dah botol tu ikut suka suki dia. mesti dia bagi balik botol tu kat aku. siap sebut 'nahhh' eheheh....

3. dah pandai panjat kerusi meja makan. bahya btol...sebelum ni dia tau tolak2 jer kerusi tu. now i have to be super cautious!

4. his new vocab 'abihhhh' & 'pish' (fish). kalau aku tutup tv nak masuk tido pon dia kata abih. at least dia faham la apa maksud abih tu. heheh...kalau pish pulak, aritu tak disangka2 dia sendiri yang sebut 'pish' bila nampak gambar ikan kat baju tido dia yang aku tengah lipat. betul pulak tu dia tunjuk direct kat ikan sebab baju tu ada gambar ship & benda2 lain lagi. clever boy!

5. he loves to show his love & affection to us. kalau tak suruh sayang ummi, sayang daddy pon dia akan datang sendiri kiss2 muka kitorg. siap sound efek 'mmmuuaahh'. eheheh...kekadang tu sound efek jer lebih, tapi muka ke lain. hahah!

speaking of temper, aku ada baca dalam What to Expect - The Toddler Years cara2 macamana nak avoid our temper towards our children especially yang toddler nilah. tau jela kan, time diorg kecik kita kena sabar layan anak bangun pagi2 buta bagi susu, salin diapers etc. skang ni bila akal diorg dah makin banyak & keluar macam2 karenah, so tahap kesabaran tu kenalah semakin tinggi!

dalam tu jugak ada sebut to be angry is a normal thing. everybody are allowed to express their anger but to some extent la kan. kita boleh marah anak, tapi lepas tu kena minta maaf balik kat dia & cakap positive things. then terus ajak dia buat fun activities. jangan panjang2kan lagi sesi tu...macam semalam, aku ajak adam kaler2 word ABC yang aku print out guna crayon. tapi aku yang kaler lebih, dia lak conteng2 sket pastu masuk mulut. cheeky! heheh...btw, his fav crayon colour is yellow! dia nak yang tu jer, kaler lain semua dia bagi aku pegang ;p

btw nantilah bila2 free i'll share more elaborate info on parental anger nih sebab ada banyak lagi. apa pon kita kena berbalik kepada agama kita la kan. kan sabar itu separuh daripada iman.... ;D

eh dah melalut2 pulak. daripada nak story pasal adam jer tetiba masuk bab lain ;p anyway, tu jer milestones adam buat masa ni. kalau ada lagi nanti aku buat additional jer.

toodles!

Bedtime Separation Anxiety

'our baby used to fall asleep easily and sleep through the night. but suddenly he clings to us and cries when we put him down and also wakes up crying during the night.'

i'm pretty sure most of the parents will encounter this kind of problem. after several months of sufficient night sleep, suddenly our babies show his or her new 'attitude'. not to worry. this kind of problem is known as bedtime separation anxiety. it's similar to day time separation anxiety that usually happens when we send our babies to the daycare or taska.

fortunately, there's solution to help our babies conquer their fears of being alone:

  • know that it's normal. it means that he's growing up, but still has a ways to grow.

  • have a peaceful prelude to bedtime. keep the hour or two leading up to bedtime as calm, reassuring and nurturing as possible. put other matters on hold until he's asleep. this will keep his stress level low before bedtime.

  • rely on routines e.g. a bedtime ritual (a story, a song, a cuddle). each night it reassures your child that the same events will take place in the same sequence and can also become the start of a night-time cycle that your child will come to anticipate.

  • try to bridge the gap with a transitional (or comfort) object such as favourite small stuffed animal, a small blanket.

  • be reassuring but not sentimental. give your baby a hug and kiss before you put him down in his cot, then say your good night. a loving but light tone in your voice will help; if your baby senses that you're anxious about leaving, he will be too. if your baby cries, continue calmly and quietly reassuring him. gently put him back down if he's pulled up. don't pick him up, don't turn on the light, and don't stay until he's asleep.

  • be consistent. this deserves repeating and repeating. without consistency, life is confusing for young children.

  • try not to feel guilty. staying with your child all night won't help him overcome night-time separation anxiety but a consistent routine, lovingly enforced will.

Nights of Tantrums

sebelum ni adam adalah seorang baby yang sangat senang nak tido. tak payah tepuk2 atau dodoi2. lepas abis minum susu & salin diaper dia akan main2 kejap, pastu trus terlelap. but recently he has changed. asik tantrum jer time nak tido. bukan nangis sikit2, tapi kaw2 punya sampai dia termuntah dalam playpen. semalam dia termuntah atas bobo lak. iskkk...

biasanya kitorg akan letak adam dalam playpen time nak tido. skang ni bila kitorg tutup jer lampu mula la dia nak tantrum. bila aku angkat letak atas katil trus dia nak tido. kitorg bukan taknak bagi dia tido skali...the problem is he's a helicopter! kalau tido mesti akan berpusing 360 degree. kalau katil king size okla kot. tapi katil kitorg queen jer. bobo saja dah amek 3/4 space. hahahaha....(ampun abe ;p). dahtu kitorg lak kena bangun awal sebab bobo kena kuar pegi keje sebelum subuh lagi (pekerja cemerlang gitu. muahaha). kalau adam tido skali biasanya memang takkan cukup tido la kitorg. tak sah kalau kaki dia tak tendang atau tangan dia tak tampar kitorg ;p pastu bila pegi keje dah macam burung hantu jer rupa sekor2 ;p

so semalam berlaku lagi episod tantrum adam. nangis2 pastu termuntah skali. then aku sapu minyak yu yee & pujuk2. dia diam la kejap. bila bobo tegur jer dia sambung nangis balik. bukan nangis sikit2 tapi sobbing. sian tengok :( last2 aku terpaksa la bawak dia keluar dari bilik pegi tido kat depan. tengah malam pon dia jaga lagi berkali2 gakla. macam mengigau. kena la pujuk2 lagi sampai dia tido balik. cobaan sungguh! bobo lak sodap jer tido dalam bilik. siap berbungkus lagi. cisss....takpelah, aku kan ibu mithali in training. heheheh....

skang ni lak adam nak aku jer pujuk2 dia. kalau bobo bersuara jer time dia nangis sure dia lagi jerit. macam ada orang cubit jer! manja ummi nih....sampai bobo cakap camner la nak masuk skolah asrama nanti kalau takleh berenggang dengan ummi. heheh....tapi aku rasa normal kot adam camni. coz he's getting into the next phase of his life - toddler phase. so makin banyak la attitude yang muncul. macam skang ni aku rasa dia baru develop bedtime separation anxiety. from what i read in What to Expect, it is normal for 1 year old babies to develop this kind of anxiety. there's some solutions for parents to cope with this problem. i'll share about it in my next entry. panjang sangat la. hehhe...

The Best Toys For 9 to 12 Months Baby

en. abam versi omputih ;p (credit mrgugel)

Semenjak dua menjak ni aku asik terfikir nak belikan en. abam toys baru. sebab dah lama gak tak beli toys kat dia. tambahan pulak toys dia takder yang developmental kecuali playgym dengan buku Lamaze tu. so kat sini aku nak share tips on the best baby toys for age 9 to 12 months yang diambil dalam website annabelkarmel:

  • Building Bricks - These are great for developing hand and finger control. Soft building bricks are best for young babies, but at first your baby will only be able to knock them down.

  • Stacking Toys - Stacking rings or beakers help your baby learn about size – your baby will need help getting them into the right order. You can have fun hiding toys under one of the beakers too.

  • Activity Centre - Good for developing fine motor skills. Look for one with buttons to press, knobs to turn, spinners to spin etc.

  • Balls - Your baby will enjoy rolling a ball to you and catching it as you roll it back. You can also roll it just out of reach to encourage your baby to crawl.

  • Crawl through tunnel - once your baby has mastered the art of crawling he may enjoy trying to crawl through a tunnel.

  • Toys that make a noise - Babies like soft toys that squeak or make a noise when pressed, toy drum or upturned saucepan and wooden spoon.

  • Books - Expand your range to include lift-the-flap books.

wahh..nampak gaya macam banyak jer lagi toys kena beli nih ;p (alasan untuk soping jer lebih. heheh)

Teething Babies

since en. abam is teething now, i'd like to share some of the info based from my reading from the book 'What to Expect - The First Year'. a teething baby may experience any or all of the following:
  1. drooling - for a lot of babies, it may start anywhere from about 10 weeks to 3 or 4 months of age.
  2. chin or face rash - irritation from constant contact with saliva could cause dry skin rash or chapping to develop on the chin. so we have to gently pat away the drool periodically during the daytime.
  3. a little cough - the excess saliva can cause baby to gag or cough occasionally. kekadang babies will continue to cough as an attention getter too (patut la penah dengar kekadang bunyi macam batuk buat2. heheh..).
  4. biting - teething babies will gum down everything! this is normal as counterpressure will help to relieve the pressure from under the gums. it's better to give the baby a teether for him to chew on.
  5. pain - inflammation is the protective response of the tender gum tissue to the impending tooth, which it considers an intruder to fend off. it causes pain in some babies, but almost none in others.
  6. irritability - the ache caused by inflammation may become more constant. thus, babies may be cranky.
  7. refusal to feed - a teething baby may appear fickle when it comes to nursing as the suction created increases his discomfort. so he may reject the breast or bottle. a baby who's started solids may lose interest in them for the time being.
  8. diarrhoea - some doctors believe that there appears to be a connection: perhaps because the excess saliva swallowed loosens the stools.
  9. low-grade fever - fever under 38.3c can occasionally accompany teething as a result of gum inflammation.
  10. wakefulness - the discomfort that has his fussing during the day can keep him awake at night. it's more common with first teeth.
  11. ear pulling, cheek rubbing - pain in the gums may travel to the ears and cheeks along nerve pathways they share, particularly when the molars begin pushing their way in.

till next time! stay tuned for more info... ;D
